Abstract

Folk tale is the general name of the stories in which some events (especially loves) are told about historical figures or minstrels. One of them is the narrative between Ferhat and Sirin, whose examples can be found in a wide area from masnavi to folk tales. This study is based on the version of the story Ferhat and Sirin published by Ergun Sav. In the study, firstly, the type of folk tale and the general characteristics of folk tales were mentioned. Then, the story of Ferhat and Sirin in Ergun Sav’s book was summarized. Then, the episode structure and main motifs of this story were examined. As a result, it has been seen that the episode structure of the story is parallel to the classical folk tales. In addition, it has been determined that 8 important motifs stand out in the narrative, which is very rich in motifs.
